Caring For Your New Communion Bowl

Caring For Your New Communion Bowl

Congratulations on purchasing a Communion Bowl!

Your bowl is handmade by MantraWorks, from a fallen hardwood tree that Jason most likely processed entirely himself. Wooden items may have a slight tendency to shrink or expand, due to humidity changes in your environment throughout the year. The unique movement of each piece can add to the charm and personality of your bowl, so notice the characteristics of your specific bowl. Our communion bowls are finished with coconut oil and a coating of beeswax, to bring out the natural color of the wood grain and provide it with a little more protection and durability. It is food safe, so feel free to use it as a serving bowl or have it on your kitchen table.

The copper tensor ring, in time, will develop a natural patina. As it’s part of the inlay in the bowl, keeping it shiny and polished is not practical, and that’s not really my intention as part of the design. Over time, any well-loved and well-used items in your home will show their wear, and these bowls are meant to be used.

To keep your bowl in good condition, I suggest hand washing and wiping it dry after washing, whenever using it with food items. And every once in awhile, you can take a small towel and reapply a bit of beeswax to your bowl. Gently rub it in, and you’ll see your treasured piece come back to life with a bit more luster once again.
